February: IT TAKES TIME

Hey guys my name is Mara Perez, I’m technically a senior but I consider myself a junior. I’m 20 years old and I’m from Seguin, Texas. I have been a Diamond Sweetheart since Fall 2020 and I cannot be thankful enough to be in such an amazing organization. When I started this organization, I wasn’t in the best state mentally or even emotionally because I was going through a really unhealthy relationship/ breakup. Because of this, I hardly participated in any social events, but this org really helped me open up to new people and heal. I truly owe my happiness to this org.

This year I’m super excited to do everything and anything with the girls that will be my future bridesmaids. This organization is everything that you put into it. On the other hand, college is hard, and no one understands our struggles but ourselves, but we must remind ourselves that we are doing our best and not to be so hard on ourselves. Don’t feel guilty to take some time for yourself, you deserve it!

What I want to leave off by saying is, I’m a first-gen student. College was rocky at first especially since I didn’t take any dual credit classes in high school. My biggest advice to give any freshmen or college student in general is to take it one day at a time. Worry about the classes that you had that day and only do homework for the classes you had for that day. That way you won’t have as much homework to worry about on the weekend and you can enjoy yourself and your weekend as well!
