September: A Presidential Welcome

Hi everyone! My name is Kelsey Martinez and I am the Diamond Sweetheart President for the 2021-2022 school year. I am a senior here at Texas State (aka the best university ever). A little bit about me…I am from a small town 20 minutes south of San Marcos, Texas. I love hanging with friends, traveling, trying new things, going to concerts and being a Diamond Sweetheart.

I transferred to Texas State in 2018 and immediately fell in love with campus and decided that I wanted to feel more involved with the university. I was not sure what I was missing but I knew simply attending classes just to go home and do homework was not going to be enough for me. One day I was walking through the Quad and saw this tent that read ‘Diamond Sweethearts’. The girls in the tent looked so fun and happy to be there so I decided to stop by and the rest is history. Fast forward 3 years later and I am now the President of this amazing organization. If I sat here and told you guys everything I loved about being a member it would take me 3 more years but I’ll start here…

Through Diamond Sweethearts I have felt like I am a part of something larger than myself. I wanted to feel at home here in San Marcos and Diamond Sweethearts gave me that feeling. I get to feel more connected to Texas State University by helping the athletic department with gameday operations. I built strong bonds with lots of beautiful, empowered women from all different walks of life. I get to be involved in lots of different things from the all girl events we do to meetings, and from volunteering to my personal favorite.. game days #EatEmUp. This organization has given me a home away from home and has made this big campus feel small in the best way imaginable. Diamond Sweethearts brought me so much more than I could have ever asked for and who would have thought I would be given all of this just by walking through the quad.

To my new sweeties, take in every moment you can because time flies and one day you will be a senior doing all of these amazing things for the last time. I can’t even begin to picture what my life would look like if I had not gotten so lucky and found this organization that I will always hold close to my heart. I know my time here at Texas State is running out but I will forever be a Diamond Sweetheart.
